There are three types of boats: the solo scull (C1x), the double scull (C2x) and the coxed quad scull (C4x+).
All the boats are sculling boats, meaning that rowers have two oars each. Males and females compete in all three boat classes and in mixed crews. The boats are designed to row safely in big offshore waves; they are highly manoeuvrable and can be launched on and off sandy swimming beaches.
