Rowing Coach Accreditation (National Coaching Accreditation Scheme)


 
Learn to Row Coach (Level 1):
Competency Level: The Learn to Row Coaching Course is a
imed at the novice coach, that coaches predominately up to junior high school level.

Pre-requisites:        
                   1. Please read the following attachment: Learn to Row Pre-requisites.
                   2.
Terminology worksheet.
 
Target: 
                   
Anyone interested in coaching; parents, teachers, outdoor recreation instructors, boat race officials, and senior school students.
                    
Course Details:    
 
6 hours contact time covering professional issues, basic rowing technique, introduction to masters, adaptive and school rowing.  

ASC Beginning Coaching General Principles & terminology task - to be undertaken online and certificate given to the course presenter upon arrival.
                     
Practical 
10 hours of mentored coaching signed off by a mentor and successful completion of the practical assessment task signed of by a Rowing Australia accredited assessor and sent to Rowing Queensland.
 
 Authority
                          Accredited to coach under the indirect supervision of a higher level coach (no
Insurance provided until coach has completed and returned their practical assessment task).

Club/ School Coach (Level 2) -               
 
Competency Level: The Club/ School Coaching Course is aimed at senior school and club coaches.
 
Pre-requisites:
                    
1.    Learn to Row Coach (level 1) completed.
2.    One year of coaching experience as a Learn to Row Coach (level 1).
3.    Units (1,3,5,7,8,9,11 & 13) ASC Intermediate Coaching General Principles completed.             
 
Target:
Coaches that already have some experience in the sport; the level 2 aims to provide the coach with the knowledge and skills to develop athletes to their potential.
     
          
Course Details:
             
Approximately 2 ½ days of contact time covering the following modules: Rowing technique, Physiology, Training methodology, Rigging, Medical Issues, Professional Issues and School age, Masters and Adaptive athletes.
 
ASC Intermediate Coaching General Principles task to be completed via correspondence and given to the course coordinator upon arrival.
 
Ensure you complete the six assessment items for the Club/ School coach and have them signed off by a Rowing Australia assessor (level 2 or higher). The seven assessment items pertain to Rowing Technique, Physiology, Training Methodology, Rigging, Medical Issues, Professional Issues, School age, Masters and Adaptive athletes.
 
Authority:
The Club/ school coach provides coaching to the majority of athletes and will   be required to tutor rowers of all ages and physical capacities. These coaches will have basic sport science knowledge.

Performance Coach (Level 3) -                
 
Competency Level: The Performance Coach is aimed at coaches intending to work with State level teams, junior National teams and school head coaches.
 
Pre-requisites:
                    
1.    Club/ School Coach (Level 2) completed.
2.    State level Club crews/ National Jnr Teams/ School Head Coach
3.    One year of coaching experience as a club/ school coach.
4.    Units (2, 12) ASC Intermediate Coaching General Principles Completed.
 
Target:
 
Coaches intending to work with State level teams, junior National teams & school head coaches; the level 3 aims to develop the coach’s concepts of applied sport science, program management skills and the ability to develop less experienced coaches within their network.
 
Course Details:
 
The performance coach course will be conducted over a 5 day residential course in Canberra conducted by Rowing Australia and the National Rowing Centre of Excellence.
 
ASC Intermediate Coaching General Principles task to be completed via correspondence and given to the course coordinator upon arrival.
 
Course Competencies: TBA from Rowing Australia.

Authority:
 
The Performance coach provides coaching to State level/ National Junior Teams and as a school head coach, the level 3 coach will be required to tutor and develop less experienced coaches within their network.

High Performance Coach (Level 4) - 

 
Competency Level: The High Performance Coach is an advanced accreditation level.
 
Pre-requisites:
                    
1.    Performance Coach (Level 3) completed.
2.    One year of coaching experience as a performance coach.
3.    Note: Entry to the High Performance Coaching course must be approved by the NRCE.
 
Target:
 
Coaches who are essentially ‘professional’ head coaches working within high performance clubs or National Training Centre networks that are coaching elite athletes. This program aims to train the coach to apply their coaching skills in a holistic manner, and work with a team of sports science experts to assist the athletes to achieve excellence.
 
Course Details:
 
The high performance coaching course will commence with a two day workshop with the remainder of the high performance requirements taking between 12months and 2 years to complete, depending on the candidates coaching workload and commitments. A 12 month mentored practicum is involved with the NRCE system staff involved.

The High Performance coach will focus on the role of the coach as a program manager, and will rely on expert coaches to act as a mentor.
