INTERREGIONAL ROWING CHALLENGE
Queensland Schools Championship Regatta 2026
Rockhampton | 19–21 September 2026

The Interregional Rowing Challenge brings together school-aged rowers from across Queensland to represent their Queensland School Sport region at the Queensland Schools Regatta.

More than just races, the Interregional Challenge is an opportunity for athletes from different schools and rowing programs to come together as one crew, racing for regional pride and representing something bigger than their own school community.

The Challenge is conducted as part of the Queensland Schools Regatta and will feature representative crews from Queensland School Sport regions competing in:

Regions are encouraged to appoint Regional Co-ordinators to support athlete selection, crew organisation, communication and regional engagement leading into the Championships.

The Interregional format creates opportunities for:

Queensland school rowing spans metropolitan, regional and remote communities, with more than 30 schools and six school rowing competitions operating across the state. The Interregional Challenge provides a platform for these diverse programs to connect and compete together.

Whether your region has a long-established rowing history or a growing school program, the Interregional Challenge is designed to be inclusive, representative and community-focused.

Interregional Challenge – Queensland Schools Regatta 2026

Rowing Queensland is not responsible for the selection of regional teams or the appointment of regional coordinators. We encourage each region to manage this process in a way that best suits its schools and athletes.

As a guideline only, regions may wish to consider the following:

  • Appoint a Regional Coordinator to oversee communication and team organisation.
  • Develop a transparent selection process that is communicated to all schools within the region.
  • Encourage collaboration between coaches to select the strongest possible crews.
  • Hold a regional meeting or selection discussion following the Regional Schools Championships.
  • Consider simple, affordable ways to build regional identity and team spirit.

The scheduled events for the Interregional Challenge are:

  • Open Schoolboys Quad Scull
  • Open Schoolgirls Quad Scull
  • Under 17 Schoolboys Quad Scull
  • Under 17 Schoolgirls Quad Scull
  • Mixed School Quad Scull
  • Mixed School Eight

Ideally, each region would field one crew in each event, with athletes competing in a single boat class rather than doubling up where possible. This would result in an Interregional team of 29 athletes representing each region across the six events.

If you have any questions regarding the Interregional Challenge or the event program, please feel free to contact operations@rowingqld.com.au.
