Brisbane River Racing Series 2026
Eights. Quads. Fours. U19. Open. Masters.
The Brisbane River Racing Series returns in 2026, bringing together clubs for a structured winter racing program on the Brisbane River.
Designed to build competition, the series combines time trials, head-to-head racing and a points-based progression culminating in a Grand Final.
Event Overview
The series will be conducted across five rounds, followed by a Grand Final:

Round 1: 13 June

Grand Final – Take the Trophy: 1 August
Racing is open to U19, Open and Masters crews in the following boat classes:

Race Format
The series is designed to progressively build competition:

Round 1: Time Trial

Crews race individually, departing at timed intervals
-

Rounds 2–5: Head-to-Head Racing
-
Crews seeded based on raw times from the previous round (excluding handicaps)

Grand Final:Head-to-head racing based on final point standings within each category

Match-ups determined by ranking (e.g. 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th)

Masters results based on handicapped times

Points System
Points are awarded in each round as follows:
-
1st place – 5 points
-
2nd place – 4 points
-
3rd place – 3 points
-
Continuing in descending order
Points accumulate across the series to determine qualification and seeding for the Grand Final.
Masters Handicapping
Masters crews will be handicapped using Rowing Australia 1000m handicaps
Handicaps will apply to results in Masters events across the series.
Eligibility and Entry Requirements
- All crews must enter via Rowing Manager
- Entries for the full series close: Sunday 7 June
- Crew changes are permitted for each round up until midnight Thursday prior to racing
Grand Final eligibility:
- Athletes must have competed in at least three rounds to be eligible

All entries and race management will be conducted through Rowing Manager.

Racing will start at the Heritage Close River Platform, Yeronga (Sommerville stretch) and race downstream to the Dutton Park Recreational Hub (Dutton Park Bridge). There are 5 emergency extraction points at Long Pocket Boat Ramp, Tillys Beach, Kings College, Sommerville House Watersports Facility and the Dutton Park Recreational Hub.

Crew Composition

Crews must compete in club zooties

Composite crews are permitted with Rowing Queensland approval

Minimum of 75% of the crew must be from one club

River and Safety Requirements

All crews must comply with Brisbane River traffic rules

Crews must remain on the coxswain’s right-hand side of the river at all times
-
Races will not be stopped for breakages
Club Responsibilities
To support safe and effective delivery of the series:
- All clubs/schools with entries must provide a tinny and driver
- Duties will include umpiring and marshalling support
- A roster will be distributed following the close of entries
