Passport

Scope:

To create opportunities for Youth rowers who have the potential for international rowing success at Junior, U23 and Senior competitions.

This programme will invest in the long term development of rowers with potential with the end goal to foster the development of these rowers to international medal standard at the World championships and ultimately the Olympic Games.

As of 2009, the Passport programme is no longer funded by the Australian Sports Commission. However Rowing Queensland sees exceptional value this programme and will continue to support and drive its overall positions within the high performance programme.

Strategy:
The Passport programme will target 6-12 rowers per year and will be based on the number of quality candidates from year to year. Selected rowers will participate in a centralised off water programme and will train out of the Rowing Queensland Gym.

The programme will include a heavy emphasis of off water training and education. This includes incorporating bar lifting techniques, and monitored ergos.

Rowers will be required to complete their on water training at their home rowing club. Selected Passport rowers may be organised to row a big boat together as required and may also race as a ‘Passport crew’ representing their rowing club as a composite crew at the NSW State titles and National Championships if feasible.

Rower selection:

Rowers nominating for the Passport Programme will be required to undertake or submit recent NEDP monthly monitoring results as set out by the Rowing Australia NEDP performance guidelines. Rowers will also be required to submit recent on water results and should have performed to a suitable standard at National level regattas or selection trials to become eligible for the programme.

Nominations are now open for the 2010-11 Passport Programme. All nominations must be sent to the Rowing Queensland High Performance Manager by the 6th August 2010 at chadk@rowingqld.asn.au. Please click the link below to access the nomination forms.
