Queensland Youth Cup Team lifts to 2nd overall on Day 2

At the conclusion of racing on Day 2 of the 2010 Youth Cup Regatta Queensland has put in several strong performances to stand in 2nd place, just two points clear of New South Wales and West Australia but well behind the again dominant New Zealanders.

The afternoon's racing was the highlight for Queensland, as the Men's Quad, consisting of Ben Ward, Ben Morley, Brendan Fischer and Angus McColl, executed their race plan to perfection to storm home with a close bronze medal behind New Zealand and New South Wales.  That was followed two races later by the A Final of the Womens Coxless Four with Queensland taking good form with the crew of Leah Billing, Fiona Albert, Anna Kaszycki and Jenny Krippner all medalling in the pairs on Day 1.  In an absolutely cracking race the New Zealanders lead by half a length after 1000m, but after clawing the gap back to just 0.12 of a second with 500m to go the Queenslanders continued to power through in the last 200m, eventually winning by a length and taking Queensland's first gold medal for the regatta.

Earlier in the day the Men's coxless Four and Womens Quads had battled extremely tough heats to progress through to the A Finals, where they both finished with well fought 4th places.  The Mixed Lightweight Reserve double of Cameron Rumball and Ella Peacock back up their good form in the singles on Day 1 to first win their heat then take bronze in their A Final.
