New Zealand Dominates as Queensland Finishes Third at Youth Cup Regatta

Queensland has finished Day 1 of the 2010 Youth Cup Regatta in third position behind Western Australia and a rampant New Zealand team.  The Kiwis were almost unstopable on a cold, still and often gloomy day's racing at the Sydney International Regatta Centre; out of a possible 80 points on offer, New Zealand finished with 76 in a display not seen before at the Youth Cup, winning 9 out of tweve A Finals.  The West Australians are sitting second with 51 points, closely followed by Queensland on 48 points and New South Wales on 47.

The best performed Queenslanders where the Commercial Rowing Club combination of Leah Billing and Fiona Albert in the Womens Division 1 pair, taking silver behind New Zealand.  Other medallists included Charlotte Travers winning bronze in the Womens Division 1 single, Jenny Krippner and Anna Kaszycki winning bronze in the Womens Division 2 pair, Tom Cox and Will Lindores winning bronze in the Mens Division 1 pair and Cameron Rumball winning bronze in the Mens Lightweight Reserve single.

Team Manager Andrew Service said the he was happy with the way the team had improved over the course of the campaign.  'All the crews have trained well leading up to the event, and while results haven't been as we'd hoped across the board we're looking forward to fighting our way into second position overall tomorrow'.
