Learn to Row FAQ

Why Row in the Morning?
Early mornings give rowers the 'best water' to row on and the least powerboat interference.  Most clubs do, however, offer mid-morning and afternoon sessions.

Is Rowing Expensive?
Rowing club membership is comparable with the cost of any other club sport.  Registration fees cover all equipment use, insurance and coaching costs.

Do I need to be fit to Row?
Learn to Row Programs welcome all levels of fitness.  The only requirement is being able to swim 100m unassisted.

What do I wear to a Learn to Row Program?
Bring tight fitting clothing, a hat, sunscreen, socks (to protect your feet), thongs (or footwear that is easy to slip off) and don't forget to bring a water bottle.  Most clubs have shower facilities, so bring a towel and a change of clothes for after the session.

Do I have to Row in Regattas?
Recreational Membership is available at all clubs, requires no racing and is actually cheaper than other membership options.

Do more Men or Women Row?
Gender does not dominate the sport.  The rowing community welcomes all genders and ages including masters and veteran rowers.

Do programs exist for Disabled or Impaired Athletes?
The Adaptive rowing program is in its 6th year and is designed to get disabled athletes out on the water and rowing competitively.
