The Fitzroy River is one of three fully buoyed courses in Queensland, and the only one fully owned and managed by a local council. Renowned for it's expansive, tree-filled boat park, excellent rowing conditions and the ability to row 40km upstream if desired; the course is also situated within the Rockhampton city limits, a five minute drive from both the Rockhampton CBD and Airport. The Fitzroy River has been the location of some of the biggest regattas in Queensland in recent years, including the Australian Masters Rowing Championships in 2005 and 2009, and the QLD Schools Rowing Championships in 2006 and 2008; the Schools Championships will again return to Rockhampton in September 2010.
